My beautiful mom's birthday

By Arnia Kiara Oosthuizen

Happy Birthday, Mom!

I hope you have a great day! I hope you have an AMAZING year! You are a woman, whom I look up to! Therefore you deserve the best birthday ever!

You are strong. You are loving. You are kind. You are soft-hearted. You are beautiful. You are hard working, but most of all, YOU ARE LOVED AND APPRECIATED!!!

I cherish every moment that I can spend time with you, because you are my hero. My Superwoman. You were strong for me, when I couldn't be strong for myself and you loved me unconditionally. You fought for me and I am so thankful for that, my gratitude can never be put into words!

I am blessed to have such an amazing mom like you. Thank you for being my mom. I am proud to call you my mom.

"My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her" -George Washington

The older you get, the more beautiful you become! I strive to be like you.
I hope you have a splendid day. Wish I was there to spend it with you!

Happy birthday to Millenium Lady

By Arnia Kiara Oosthuizen

Last year, the 20th of November, I wrote my first blog post on this blog! Time flies when you're having fun, I guess!

I have learned so many things about blogging, as well as social media, while I enjoyed myself on this blog. I also met a great deal of people, who I would never have met if not for this blog.

I have decided to give away an iTunes voucher of a R150 ($15), because it's the blog's birthday!

What do you have to do to win?

You have to:

  • Comment on this post and tell me what you will do with the voucher.
  • Like the Millenium Lady page on Facebook
The draw will take place on Thursday, the 27th of November. Anyone can be part of this competition. The name of the winner will be drawn at random!

Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor!

Extremely blessed

By Arnia Kiara Oosthuizen

This weekend, I celebrated my 21st birthday. My friends and family made it extremely special. I have tears in my eyes of thankfulness to each and everyone.

At my 1920's Gatsby 21st
First of all, I would like to thank my parents and especially my mom. They did so much effort with my party and with my birthday. The tables looked beautiful, the food was amazing and I even had a birthday cake! I think this was my first legit birthday cake! It was amazing! Thank you Mom and Dad, you are everything that children wish for. You spoiled me rotten. I really love you.

My aunt Debbie, my grandmother and grandfather for the wonderful and big presents. You really spoiled me in ways, I cannot ever say thank you enough!

The cake!
I would also like to thank my friends for enjoying my party with me and all the wonderful gifts I received. Without my friends I would be hollow. we had the best night and danced our feet off doing the Charleston on the dance floor!

My friends dressed beautifully!

My gorgeous sister and her outfit

My 21st was everything I hoped for and I couldn't ask for more because it was THE BEST!  Thanx to everyone that made it so wonderful and great!

Expectation vs Reality of turning 21

By Arnia Kiara Oosthuizen

In a week, I'm turning 21. 21 21 21! I cannot believe it. But the scary thing is, I don't feel 21, I still feel like the little tomboy from school. I used to collect bugs and play in the mud, and I hated dresses. Growing up, I had a lot of expectations of what 21 should feel like, but like we all know life never really is the way you expected it to be and in some ways you are glad that it didn't meet up with your expectations.

21st party of a friend

My expectations were that I would have directions in life. I expected that I would know exactly what job and house I would have. that I would know who I'd marry and my future would lay crystal clear in front of me. When I was a lot younger, I expected at the age of 21, I would be an old widow or something. I even thought at some point that I would have children by this time. I thought that I would still be friends with all the people, who were my friends in school. I thought that I would be done studying and on my way to my dream job. AND THEN LIFE LAUGHED IN MY FACE AND SAID: That's not what I have in store.

My reality is this: I have no idea where I want to be in life. Next year, I still want to study something, so the job part has to wait. I am thinking about doing my honors in Communication or attending a business school at the university. The house part has to wait (obviously). My future is not crystal clear in front of me, in fact, it is like a birthday cake smudged in a little boy's face.

I always thought that I would know who the ONE is, who I'd marry, when I was 21. But then life taught me that there are multiple ONE's. Many fish in the sea. Whatever you want to call it. I'm also not ready to marry and start my life with someone. I first have to know myself and I first have to do all the things I wanted to do, before I start my life with someone. I still want to travel the world, experience the world and look after myself. So it's chilled vibes about meeting Prince Charming, The ONE, The fish in the sea... WHATEVER.

Turning 21 in a week, I am not yet a widow. Unless, something happens this week, like I get marries, grow very old in a few days and then he dies before Sunday. Then the possibility is there that I could be a widow and very old.

After my sister was born, I realized that no way in hell I would have children before the age of 30! I am 21, still a few years to go. Phew!

Friends come and go, but you always like to believe that they would be your BFF (Best Friends Forever). I had many friends in school and we had good times, but after school everyone went their own course and we lead different lives. I have a handful of friends, who have always been there. Come hell or high water, they stuck it out and I really cherish these friendships. They are all I need.

Yes, life laughed in my face about my expectations, but I'm still happy with how things worked out and I couldn't ask for better. I really feel privileged to lead the life that I'm living. Have I been making to much of a deal of turning 21 or is it society, who puts such a big expectation on it.

Happy 21st!

By Arnia Kiara Oosthuizen

(This post is in Afrikaans and written for my best friend)

Liefste Melanie,

My hart was in stukke.

Jy is 21 vandag.

Mag ek en jy altyd so MAL wees!

Jy weet wat nou gaan volg:
(Warm gou stem op)

Singing don't worry about a thing,
'cause every little thing is gonna be allright!
(Sing it Ernie)

Singing don't worry about a thing,
'cause every little thing is gonna be allright!
(Sing it Bernie)

Age is just a number

By Arnia Kiara Oosthuizen

So, every year on the 12th of March a special woman celebrates her birthday. I call her Mom. They say it's her birthday every year, but I don't believe it. My mom doesn't age, she only becomes more beautiful.

Mom, happy birthday! You are a true blessing and my primary role model! You are my Power Woman. You have showed me that life is only as tough as you make it. You have also taught me that happiness is an inside job. Sitting around and waiting for someone to make you happy is only gonna play out in unhappiness.

We have been through pretty tough times, but I would never ask for a do-over, because I am happy with my present, in which I live now.

You have done so much for me, a thank-you will never be enough, but I am grateful for the manner that you have raised me. You are the best parent ever. Thanks for always being there and being the example of how every parent should be.
THANK YOU!

I hope you have an awesome day. I love you, mom.

Grandpa is 75!

By Arnia Kiara Oosthuizen

Everyone has a role model in life, some have them in their families or people who make a difference somewhere. My whole family is in some way an inspiration to me! Well, my role model is my grandfather, who is 75!!!!!!!!

He is passionate about life, he is always on the go, he has a weird sense of humor (which is good), he has green fingers like no one else and he is a nature lover.

My grandfather is part of the community in so many ways and he is always attending some meeting and he is literally always on the go (I got that trait from him), it is very rare that he will sit down and relax. If he does sit down, he falls asleep! Haha

One will almost always find him in the garden. He likes a beautiful garden and works very hard to keep it in a tip-top condition. Ask him about any plant and he will tell you its name, how much water and sun it needs. The same goes for birds.

But what stands out the most is, his love for us. I never doubted his love for a second. It reflects in his eyes and in his body language.

Happy birthday, Grandpa! 75 is still young when you feel young. Thank you for inspiring me and for being my role model.

Give this man a Bell's!

Li'l sister is 5!

By Arnia Kiara Oosthuizen

Mieka's ballet concert

Five years ago, my whole world changed, with a baby girl named Mieka.

I grew up alone and always wished for a sibling. Be careful what you wish for, 'cause you might just get it!
She enriches our lives in so many ways, it's impossible to describe. It was tiring to play catch by myself!

She is a real princess and she loves wearing dresses, heels, tiaras and fairy wings. She is a real lady and a pretty one, at that.
No cheese for this camera!

She is the complete opposite of me. She is deathly scared of bugs, which is the opposite of me, because I used to catch them and play with them all day. And I disliked dresses a lot! I was the tomboy chasing the boys around with bugs haha!

Before gymnastics
Time flies when you are having fun! 5 years flew very fast and I cannot wait for the memories yet to come, with her.

I love you, my baby sis!
